Kiki Kogelnik: I Have Seen The Future
The solo exhibition on the upper floor of the Kunstverein’s gallery space in Hamburg is the first comprehensive show in Germany devoted to the work of the Austrian artist Kiki Kogelnik (1935-1997). It represents the continuation of a series showing proto-feminist art from the time and artistic context of Pop Art, which the Kunstverein began in 2011 with a solo exhibition of work by Evelyne Axell (1935- 1972).

Kerry James Marshall: Who's Afraid of Red, Black and Green
In Who’s Afraid of Red, Black and Green, his first exhibition in Austria, African American artist Kerry James Marshall shows a new 16-part series in which he once again examines the visual representation of black people in “western” society and the pictorial tradition associated with it. The programmatic title points to the show’s linking of the ideas and goals of the Black Power and Civil Rights movements and the abstract color field painting of Barnett Newman.

Dieter Roth: Diaries
Dieter Roth kept diaries throughout his life, each one packed with an accumulation of notes, lists and dates but also sketches, photographs and poems. The Fruitmarket Gallery exhibits these together with other diaristic work by the artist as testament to his career-long obsession with the diary form. Review by Catherine Spencer.

The Rootless Forest
The Rootless Forest is a mobile artwork, a mini-forest made of real trees and soil planted on a boat that travels at walking pace along the Birmingham and Black Country Canals. From The Rootless Forest we hear recorded stories about passage, change and home, told by families from the UK military, and UK Afghan communities in Birmingham. The soundscape is a collaboration between artist Beth Derbyshire and voice director Tara McAllister-Viel.

Rineke Dijkstra: A Retrospective
Since the early 1990s, Rineke Dijkstra has produced a complex body of photographic and video work, offering a contemporary take on the genre of portraiture. Her large-scale color photographs of young, typically adolescent subjects recall 17th-century Dutch painting in their scale and visual acuity.

After a year at sea, Alex Hartley's Nowhereisland completes its journey, from Arctic island to visiting nation. The simple narrative premise – the journey of a small island from an Arctic archipelago as a migrant nation during the London 2012 Games – has acted as this new nation’s emblematic back-story inspiring over 21,000 global citizens.

Art of Change
Since Ai Wei Wei’s detainment in 2011, the international arts community has been looking for a way to understand better the spirit of dissent and antagonistic non-traditionalism that seems to characterise contemporary Chinese art. In an attempt to locate these strands in a shifting socio-political climate, the Hayward Gallery and the Southbank Centre, ever keen to engage with transience and change in their artistic programme (I'm thinking here of the thematic festivals that form the backbone of the Centre's annual offering), have opened the first major exhibition to focus solely on contemporary performance and installation art from China.

Jerwood Drawing Prize 2012
There is a fashion for serious art prizes to be the preserve of students and graduates of art schools. Francis Bacon, for one, could never have been anointed a New Contemporary. But if he had drawn ‚ a practice he famously disavowed‚ the Jerwood Drawing Prize might have lain within his grasp...
