Robert Mapplethorpe
A renowned figure of contemporary photography, Robert Mapplethorpe (1946–1989) was in his element in a domain defined by conventions and revolt, classicism and non-conformist cultures, where each picture serves as a document of hard-fought identities, as well as inciting and recording social and artistic debates.

The Bruce Lacey Experience
Bruce Lacey (born 1927) is one of Britain's great visionary artists. His lifetime pursuit of eccentric ‘making and doing’ has been a cathartic working-through of his experiences. This survey of a rich and diverse artistic production is a celebration of both his vibrant life (which includes working with Spike Milligan, The Beatles and Ken Russell) and his art which reveals telling links with the visual culture of the last 60 years.

Belinde De Bruyckere: ‘Yara’ (‘The Wound’)
Berlinde De Bruyckere creates sculptures and drawings that refer to suffering and desire, by revealing the fragility of the body and the vulnerability of existence. From her conceptual and abstract sculptures to her figurative works, the diversity of her forms build a continuity through the frequent use of materials such as wax, wood, fabric, horse skin and hair. "The Wound" presents, alongside sculptures and drawings the artist realised since the 1990s, a number of new pieces, which she has produced especially for the exhibition in Istanbul.

Mary Maclean: Left of Place
The photographic images of empty lecture theatres, hallways and seminar rooms in Mary MacLean’s Left of Place engage with new spatial representations and allude to the interface between knowledge and power using titles drawn from Foucault’s essays. Each incomplete image suggests that the world is not an unalterable state which crushes us, but a contradictory mixture of permanence and change.

David Byrne: Get It Away from Artangel on Vimeo. David Byrne stayed in A Room for London, a one-bedroom installation above the River Thames, from 17 - 19 February 2012. During this residency, he created Get It Away... London's tempo is 122.86 beats per minute. I brought along some field recording gear to use while I was staying in the lovely pod/room/boat. I went out during the day and recorded sounds that I thought might be useful and evocative. It turned out that most of the sounds - even the church organ in Southwark Cathedral - seemed to converge around a common rhythm. It's a bit too good to be true - that every large city should have its own rhythm, but here it is. I let the sounds dictate the groove, the tempo, and then I simply played along. Here are where the sounds come from: Strawberry seller: Borough Market, Train: Southwark, Woman Evangelist: Spitalfields Market, Organ: Southwark Cathedral, Jackhammer: near Waterloo, Footsteps: mine, embankment, Thames waves: near Surrey water. The videos are from all over. I took lots of photos around town while walking about, but I felt that moving images complemented London's groove a little better. DB
