Francis Alÿs: Fabiola

From 12 March to 28 August Schaulager will be presenting the exhibition project Francis Alÿs: Fabiola at the Haus zum Kirschgarten, once Basel’s foremost town house, now a museum of extravagant domestic living. Over 350 portraits of Saint Fabiola will be integrated into the existing displays there.

Taryn Simon: A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters

A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters was produced over a four-year period (2008-11), during which Simon travelled around the world researching and recording bloodlines and their related stories. The subjects documented by Simon include victims of genocide in Bosnia, the body double of Saddam Hussein’s son Uday, and the living dead in India. Review by Max Liu. 25 May – 6 November 2011

The works that the British artist John Stezaker has been creating since the mid-1970s make use of film stills and portraits of actors found in secondhand bookshops, pictures taken from vintage books and old postcards. Piccadilly Community Centre

Former Midland / HSBC Bank and Hauser & Wirth’s Piccadilly gallery is currently being transformed into a fully functioning Community Centre. The centre will host a wide range of classes, workshops and events. Facilities will include among other things multifunctional spaces, a computer room, a non-denominational prayer room, an activity room, a community canteen, a community bar and club. Outside in the market in front of St James’ Church, the Community Centre will run a stall. There will be a daily schedule of classes and events, which start on Friday 13 May and will run until Saturday 30 July.
