Ultimate Substance - Anja Kirschner & David PanosExtra City Kunsthal, Antwerpen, Tulpstraat 79, 2060 Antwerp

24 January – 3 March 2013 Opening: 24 January 2013 | 7:00pm
On January 24th, Extra City Kunsthal presents Ultimate Substance, the final exhibition in the fourfold Cross-examinations series. Ultimate Substance features the homonymous work by Anja Kirschner and David Panos, co-produced by Extra City Kunsthal, together with an overview of the duo’s work. The exhibition runs till March 3 and is the last at Extra City’s current venue.
Ultimate Substance (2012) is a new video installation in which the artists interweave associative references to archaeology, philosophy, mathematics, and ritual, departing from the hypothesis that the introduction of coinage in the ancient Greek world effected a profound cognitive shift that was key to the emergence of Western philosophic, scientific and dramatic traditions. The video projection is complemented by an installation containing rocks and a model of a Platonic solid, which point to the separation of physical and mental activity that took place in ancient Greece at the dawn of a money-driven economy.
